Healthy schools standards

The Government's role

Schools are one of the key settings to promote the health of young people and the wider community. Pupils have a better chance of fulfilling their potential when they are healthy, happy and at ease in all areas of their lives. The Government hopes to encourage this with:

The National Healthy School Standard

The National Healthy School Standard is designed to give practical support for schools to create a safe learning environment and minimise health risks. This means specific work on issues ranging from drug use to healthy eating, as well as strengthening an overall awareness of pupils' and staffs' social and emotional wellbeing. The National Healthy Schools Standard is supported by the Wired for Health website.
