Spotlight: Sport keeps children out of trouble

Did you know that sport can help trouble makers? Trinity School, Bexley used adventure sports to tackle this problem.

Over half of their Year 9 and 10 pupils were up to no good. But with the help of an adventure sports project, their behaviour improved and they got on better with their teachers and other children. This was because the sports they were involved in gave them a taste of success - as well as, like any of their sporting heroes, having to deal with failure.

It really worked - one boy who had been on report for three years actually came off it, as he was so motivated by being involved with sport.

Spotlight: Young People's Arts Award

Most children love doing arts at school and our Young People's Arts Award helps reward artistic talent in 13 to 25 year-olds.

Jimmy, 15, is interested in drama and music as a hobby: "The Arts Award is good for people like me, it shows I've done it. It's good for someone who's interested in it for the fun side, leisure, rather than career."

Spotlight: Peek behind closed doors - for free

Why not take the kids to some of the country's most interesting buildings - many of which aren't normally open to the public - absolutely free?

Heritage Open Days get you inside all sorts of buildings across England, from tours of castles, windmills and tunnels, to medieval re-enactments and children's activities. This year it runs from 8 -11 September.
