''Time to talk'' webchat

On 7 February 2005, Jan Fry from Parentline Plus participated in a live online Question & Answer session here on ParentsCentre on the subject of sex and relationship education for pre-teens and teens.
Jan answered your questions on what can be a sensitive and difficult subject to tackle with children, covering areas for teenagers including sexuality, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases, the related dangers of drugs and alcohol and how to set boundaries. For pre-teens, she gave advice and support on issues such as puberty and self-confidence.
The main issue for sex and relationship education for children is communication, and Jan explained some of the key points included in Parentline Plus's 'Time to talk' campaign, which gives advice on how, why and when you need to approach your child.
